05 / A NAME WITH A PAST
Where does the name Suchy Bór come from?
1879 / 1888It was not invented for a holiday rental. It is a trace of old Zakopane.
Suchy Bór is a historical place name associated with this part of Zakopane. Gustawicz’s 1879 account mentions it in connection with Pardałówka and Oberconówka, Bystre and Nosal. Older records also describe the Olcza stream flowing through the Bystre clearing and Suchy Bór. The name appears on a map dating from around 1888.
We do not draw historical boundaries or claim that they match today’s plot. We simply keep the name — a small piece of local memory, now part of a contemporary apartment.
